I am equally humbled and excited by the idea of participating in the first working steps under our new constitution. Ratifying our constitution was the biggest step towards de-colonization so far. I would not dare to say that we have done better in bringing this forward then our ancestors and Louis Riel. We should celebrate living in a Canada that has come of age to embrace the role of our Métis Nation within it. Our sacred responsibility to the efforts of our ancestors over the last 150 years to bring this about, hinges upon transparency, accountability, and equality. All those elected and everyone in attendance at our meetings and general assemblies must always endeavor, to hold our elected officials to the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and accountability. We must continue to achieve high standards of parliamentary excellence, where we work to hear all voices. We are the people that own themselves.
Louis Riel, father of the Metis Nation
